The Open Inquiry blog is intended to keep you updated with the latest information and available resources surrounding free speech and open inquiry on college campuses. One of the resources you should know about is Heterodox Academy.
Heterodox Academy Members
Heterodox Academy is a politically diverse group of social scientists, natural scientists, humanists, and other scholars who have endorsed the following statement:
I believe that university life requires that people with diverse viewpoints and perspectives encounter each other in an environment where they feel free to speak up and challenge each other. I am concerned that many academic fields and universities currently lack sufficient viewpoint diversity—particularly political diversity. I will support viewpoint diversity in my academic field, my university, my department, and my classroom.
Together they are working to increase viewpoint diversity in the academy by sharing research, discussing possible solutions, and advocating for policies and systemic changes to improve the quality of work produced by the academy. As member Jonathan Haidt puts it-
Our goal is attain enough diversity — and enough room for diverse viewpoints to be aired without fear of consequences — that orthodoxies get disrupted and the normal processes of debate and disconfirmation can work their magic.
